The Queensland Police Service Medal (QPSM) was introduced in 1999 to recognise the diligent and ethical service by QPS members and is not granted as a right by virtue of long service. In 2009 the Commissioner approved a change in the eligibility criteria for the award to be made available to living former members who served in the QPS before the introduction of the QPSM.

Medal

The QPSM may be awarded to a former member who:

• has completed 10 years full-time qualifying service, or the equivalent in part-time service that in aggregate amounts to 10 years
• has met the required standards regarding diligent and ethical service
• is, in the opinion of the Commissioner, a fit and proper person to receive the award.
