Instituted in 1908 by King Edward VII and awarded for 12 years service and good conduct by men of the R.A.N.V.R. Issue of the medal ceased in 1969 with the merging of the R.A.N.V.R. with the R.A.N.R. The medal was struck in silver with approximately 2,900 being awarded to Australians.
